…Maria Lai, artist, born in Ulassai the 27th of September 1919.

She was one of the most peculiar voices of the Italian contemporary art movement from the second post-war period onwards. In her works the millenary Sardinian handweaving tradition gives way to new compositional potential in an admirable poetic attempt to rebuild a bond between an archaic past and a present, in which the transmission of the ancient memories appear to lose its value.
