... Maria Lai, artist, born on September 27 1919 in Ulassai, was one of the most peculiar voices of the Italian contemporary art movement from the second post-war period onwards.

In her works the millenary Sardinian handweaving tradition gives way to new compositional potential in an admirable poetic attempt to rebuild a bond between an archaic past and a present in which the transmission of the past memories appear to lose its value.
